Central to NetWisdoms architecture, the Portal discovers
and manages all available NetWisdom Probes. Portal then
gathers, aggregates and records the SCSI and Link statistics
every second from the available Probes making it accessible
to NetWisdom Views. Portal is a powerful software tool
that performs statistical calculation, generates alarms
and records the storage centric statistics for play-back.
Based on a JAVA Architecture, Portal manages all probes
discovered in the SAN or LAN and generates alarms based
off of user configured thresholds.
In the SAN, the Portal aggregates key statistics for Initiators,
Targets and Target/LUNs, allowing the SAN manager to monitor
accesses to a server or a device. With the device level
statistics, SAN managers can analyze exactly which devices
are communicating through which link. User definable conditions
will be entered into a log for "out-of-bound"
event analysis on monitored links. Alarm thresholds can
be defined for any metric specifying upper or lower limits
by frequency over time. Detect alarms can trigger email,
recordings, or file logging and will be stored in the
Portals database.
