Curtiss-Wright Expands Physical
Layer Switch With New Hot-Swap 12 Port 10Gb/s Fibre Channel/Ethernet/
iSCSI Card
LEESBURG, VA – May 1, 2006, -- Curtiss-Wright Controls
Embedded Computing, has introduced a new hot-swappable
10Gb/s Fibre Channel/Ethernet/iSCSI card, the RT10000,
designed for use in Curtiss-Wright’s space-saving 144
and 288 port GLX4000 Physical Layer Switch products. The
RT10000 provides a cost-effective modular method of scaling
the high density GLX4000 switch to match specific network
requirements. Each RT10000 port card can accept up to
12 XFP transceiver modules.
Pricing and Availability
Availability of the RT10000 port card is off-the-shelf

ÒCurtiss-Wright’s 288-port GLX4000 port switch offers
the highest port density physical layer switch available
on the market,Ó said Gorky Chin, VP & General Manager
of Embedded Computing’s Data Communications group. ÒThe
new RT10000 port card adds unmatched high density networking
flexibility to the GLX4000. Even better, the RT10000 is
hot-swappable, which lowers the cost and reduces down-time
for system maintenance.Ó
The RT10000 port card supports a wide range of optical
wavelengths. Its XFP transceiver modules can be configured
with 850nm, 1310nm, or 1550nm wavelength optical interfaces.
This flexibility enables users to easily convert network
media from 850nm optical to 1550nm optical for DWDM applications.
An industry leader in signal integrity, Curtiss-Wright
also includes built-in signal retiming on each port to
ensure the highest possible signal quality.
In addition, the RT10000 provides real-time diagnostic
data, via XFP Digital Diagnostics (XDD), to deliver the
information that Network Administrators need for timely
repairs or prognostics. Data captured by XDD includes
vendor, transceiver type, range, protocol, transceiver
temperature, transmit and receive optical power, and transceiver
supply voltage. The RT10000 also reports the temperature
measured at both ends of the card. All XDD information
can be accessed through a simple-to-use GUI or powerful
CLI.
The GLX4000 Physical Layer Switch
The 19Ó rackable GLX4000 144/288 uses a chassis and blade
architecture that provides network designers with a simple
and cost-effective way to expand the crossbar switch as
their application needs grow. The GLX4000’s high port
density, reduces slot counts, and so lowers the cost of
spares and hardware inventory management.
The GLX4000’s system chassis can accommodate up to six
hot-swappable 48-port interface blades configured to support
XFP or SFP modules at speeds up to 10 Gb/s. The switch
can also be configured to accept direct Firewire connections
at rates up 1600 Mb/s. Because the GLX4000’s blades all
connect to a common backplane, the switch’s cross-connect
functionality extends across any combination of blades
and ports.
