Provides Support for CALEA Compliance in Service Provider’s
IP Networks
GigaVUE-MP creates out of band "monitoring"
network, where VoIP calls can be aggregated, filtered
and recreated apart from operating network
Chicago, IL, June 5, 2006 -At GlobalComm, Gigamon Systems,
a leading provider of data access solutions for out-of-band
network monitoring, today announced that its GigaVUE-MP
data-access switch supports compliance with CALEA in service
provider IP networks. GigaVUE-MP filters and aggregates
voice and data information, which enables government agencies
to deploy its monitoring tools to receive packets relating
to the calls it needs to perform its task, and only the
calls that it needs. This means that GigaVUE-MP can even
recreate a stream of conversations that occur in multiple
parallel segments and switches at any speed ranging from
10 Megabit to 10 Gigabit.
Government agencies use the GigaVUE-MP data-access switch
for aggregation and isolation of IP voice and data communications
on mesh networks for CALEA. Mapping specific VoIP calls
to a monitoring tool for CALEA presents a big challenge
for a service provider, as finding desired call packets
inside the IP network is extremely challenging because
its network is so meshed and virtualized. GigaVUE-MP uses
packet-aware cross-connects to create an out of band "monitoring"
network, where all of the information can be aggregated
and filtered apart from the operating network.
Gigamon also utilizes line-rate, hardware based, Packet
Level Filtering and Flow Mapping, which removes non-relevant
traffic in order to enable bandwidth-efficient multi-link
aggregation. Mapping enables traffic from 1 Gig or 10
Gig sources to be sorted by flows, sessions or calls and
directed or ÒmappedÓ to only the desired tool. This ensures
vastly improved flexibility by providing filtering rules
that can be based on predefined templates including MAC
or IP source or destination addresses, IP subnets, application
ports, and VLAN identification ports.
ÒGigaVUE-MP enables government agencies to set up a monitoring
network, where it can choose the calls it needs to review
outside the service provider network,Ó said Tom Gallatin,
VP of Sales and Marketing for Gigamon. ÒThis creates much
greater efficiency, as it can filter out all of the irrelevant
information.Ó
By filtering, aggregating, and multicasting critical data
to support multiple network monitoring tools, GigaVUE-MP
enables more flexible network security, monitoring, and
troubleshooting while using far fewer and less intrusive
tools. This enables network managers to meet the ever
more onerous challenges of regulatory compliance, security,
application optimization, and availability of today’s
service provider IP network.
