To achieve survivable connectivity, Envoy NRM connects
directly to network devices and servers over the console
port, much like a console server or terminal server. These
dedicated serial connections enable secure, always-on
connectivity, even during outages, as well as nonstop,
uninterrupted monitoring of critical statistics and user
interactions with managed devices.
When the network is functioning properly, Envoy appliances
use an Ethernet-based connection to connect to the centralized
management server, the NRMS. But when it’s not, Envoy
NRMs immediately establish remote connectivity using a
dial-up modem, cellular network, or satellite communications.
This enables the appliances to deliver secure, always-on
connectivity to the devices, giving you the survivable
access you need when the network is down.
On-board, battery backup provides an additional 30-minutes
of uptime for Envoy NRMs in the case of a complete power
outage; this enables you to retrieve a complete report
of all incidents preceding the outage to aid in troubleshooting.
Optional Remote Power Management & Environmental Monitoring
Complementing its survivable connectivity capabilities,
Envoy NRM offers an optional robust power management feature
that enables you to monitor and control power remotely.
Envoy appliances can be set to automatically manage power
or can allow a network administrator to manually control
individual power outlets, create logical groupings, monitor
current, and control power-up sequencing. This power management
option takes the headache out of power cycling devices
in remote locations, eliminating truck rolls and saving
you valuable time.
Additionally, the Envoy appliances offer an optional 1-Wire
integration that performs continuous sampling of external
power, temperature and humidity conditions.
